2 min read#235

Current assets are properties that can be converted into cash or used in operating activities during one financial cycle, which is usually one year or less. Current assets are a key part of the capital structure of any company and typically include the following:

  1. Cash and Cash Equivalents: include cash in bank accounts and highly liquid investments that can be converted into cash quickly.
  1. Short-term Investments: include securities such as bonds and certificates of deposit held by the company and considered highly liquid.
  1. Accounts Receivable: amounts owed by customers to the company for goods or services provided to them, which are expected to be received in the near future.
  1. Inventory: stored goods and products not yet sold, which are part of production or future sales operations.
  1. Prepaid Expenses and Other Current Assets: include prepaid expenses such as prepaid rent and other assets that can be converted into cash quickly.

Importance of Current Assets:

  • Financing Daily Operations: current assets provide the liquidity needed to finance the company’s daily activities such as paying suppliers and covering operating costs.
  • Responding to Changes: they enable the company to deal with daily market changes and customer needs without requiring additional external financing.
  • Liquidity Assessment: the size and composition of current assets reflect the company’s ability to withstand market changes and respond to new opportunities.

Valuation and Management of Current Assets:

  • Effective Inventory Management: achieving the ideal balance of inventory levels to ensure availability for customers and reduce costs resulting from inventory storage.
  • Controlling Accounts Receivable: monitoring and managing accounts receivable efficiently to ensure smooth cash flow and reduce overdue receivables.
  • Optimizing Cash and Cash Equivalents: improving the management of cash and short-term investments to ensure the company has the liquidity it needs.

Current assets are a fundamental part of the company’s financial structure and contribute to the enterprise’s financial sustainability and operational growth in the short and long term.
